Some cosplays come from trends, but the ones that stick are the ones you genuinely love.
Ever since Bowsette first appeared as a fan-created concept inspired by Nintendo, I was immediately drawn to it. The original artist’s version had such a strong visual identity, and even though the design has evolved and sparked debates over details like hair color, I chose to stay true to the original blonde interpretation that first caught my attention.
The Look
This cosplay leaned into a more stylized, character-inspired build while still using wearable pieces.
Main Pieces
- Corset bodysuit (full bodysuit style)
- Opaque skater tights
- Fishnets layered over tights
Layering the fishnets over opaque tights helped:
- Maintain coverage
- Add texture
- Keep the look cohesive and wearable for a full convention day
Footwear (Comfort Tips)
The boots were one of my favorite parts:
- Platform, high-heel style
But with heels, comfort is everything. My go-to tips:
- Size up to allow room for:
- Thick socks
- Cushion inserts
- Use lidocaine spray to help numb foot fatigue
- Plan ahead for long wear
These small adjustments make a huge difference in lasting through an entire convention.
Wig Styling (Unique Setup)
The wig was actually one of the more interesting parts of this cosplay.
Process:
- Natural hair secured under a wig cap
- Top portion of the wig glued into place
- Ponytail piece is separate and clipped in
The key detail for me was the ponytail clip goes through the wig and attaches to your real hair
This helps:
- Keep the wig from sliding back
- Add extra stability
Accessories
- Jewelry set (kit-based, themed)
- Bowsette-style backpack
I still own the backpack, though it’s more of a costume-specific piece and not something I use regularly outside of cosplay.
Convention Experience
This cosplay definitely got attention in both positive and challenging ways.
Positive Moments
- Many people loved the look
- Some even said it was one of the best Bowsette interpretations they had seen
- I had fun interacting in character, especially:
- Playfully “roaring” at people
- Joking about being cold outside the Fire Kingdom
One of my favorite moments was a playful crossover “battle” with Ice King from Adventure Time. That’s one of the best parts of cosplay, those unexpected, creative interactions.
A Note on Public Perception
This cosplay also came with an important learning experience.
Because the design includes:
- Leg-focused styling
- A more fitted silhouette
Some attendees assumed it was more revealing than it actually was.
In reality:
- I was fully covered with opaque tights
- Everything was secure and convention-appropriate
After a conversation with staff, I clarified:
- The outfit met guidelines
- It was no more revealing than typical casual attire seen at events
The situation was handled professionally, and I appreciated the fairness once everything was understood.
Personal Takeaway
Experiences like this are part of cosplay in public spaces, because different audiences interpret outfits differently.
It reinforced for me:
- The importance of balancing creativity with environment
- Why certain conventions (like horror-focused ones) tend to feel more aligned with my style
Current Condition
- All major pieces are stored and intact
- Boots, accessories, and bodysuit are reusable
- Tights and fishnets are regularly replaced as needed
Final Thoughts
This cosplay was:
- Bold
- Playful
- And incredibly fun to perform in
While I’m not sure how often I’ll revisit Bowsette specifically, it’s still a costume I really enjoyed bringing to life.
Between:
- The character energy
- The interactions
- And the overall look
It’s definitely one that stands out.
