013 Sailor Moon’s Wicked Lady

This cosplay is based on Wicked Lady, also known as Black Lady depending on the version of Sailor Moon you watched. She is the darker transformation of Chibiusa when she is manipulated by the Black Moon Clan. For me, this character always stood out. There was something about her shift in personality, her confidence, and the visual design that made her unforgettable. It was a turning point in the story, not just for her, but also for Usagi, who begins to realize how important their relationship really is.

The Appeal of the Character

Wicked Lady has a very distinct presence. She carries herself with confidence and power, and there is a sense that she fully embraces who she is in that moment. That unapologetic energy is something that really drew me in. I have always been someone who tends to overthink and overcare, so seeing a character who simply exists without hesitation felt refreshing in a strange way. Visually, she also has one of the most interesting designs.

  • Dark, gothic-inspired elements
  • Pops of color that still feel feminine
  • Dramatic hair and silhouette
  • A balance between cute and intimidating

It is a combination that makes her stand out immediately.

The Rave Experience

I wore this cosplay to an anime rave hosted by We Touch Grass. It was such a fun environment because it blended cosplay with music and energy in a completely different way than a traditional convention. There was a moment where the MC called for cosplayers to come on stage, so all of us went up thinking we were meant to be presented or acknowledged. Then he clarified that he meant the judges, and we were asked to step off. It was a little chaotic, but honestly, it was more funny than anything. Moments like that just remind you that events are live, people are human, and things do not always go perfectly.

The Outfit

Most of this cosplay was sourced from Amazon, and overall, it was surprisingly good quality. The design translated well and felt recognizable right away. The only real issue was the top.

  • The mesh top was not stretchy
  • It was slightly stiff and scratchy
  • It made getting dressed more difficult than expected

If I were to upgrade anything, it would be replacing that piece with a more flexible fabric and transferring the details over.

The Wig Decision

For the wig, I chose a simplified version. Instead of going with the full long pigtails, I used a version with buns. Long pigtails tend to tangle very easily, and I already knew from past experience how difficult they can be to manage. This version still read clearly as the character while being much more practical. In the future, I may refine the buns further, so they better match the shape of Wicked Lady’s hairstyle.

Luna-P Ball (Purse)

The Luna-P ball purse is one of my favorite parts of this cosplay. It is an official Sailor Moon item, and while it is designed as a flat bag, I would love to eventually modify it into a more spherical shape to better match the character. It is such a recognizable and playful accessory, and it adds a lot to the overall look.

Contact Lens Experience

I wore red contacts for this cosplay, but they did not read as strongly as I expected. Because I have naturally brown eyes, the red blended in a way that made them appear more reddish-brown rather than a bold red. This is something I would want to experiment with in the future by testing different brands and opacity levels to find a more vibrant option.

A Meaningful Moment

One of the most memorable parts of this experience was a small interaction. A girl came up to me and gave me a Sailor Moon bracelet. It was completely unexpected, and I did not have anything to give in return. She was incredibly kind about it, and I still have that bracelet to this day. It is one of those moments that stays with you because of how genuine it felt.

The Profile Icon Moment

This cosplay ended up becoming much more than just a costume. At one point, I froze a frame of myself holding the Luna-P ball purse in what I thought was the cutest pose. That image became my profile picture across all of my platforms for a long time.

It marked a shift for me.

This was the cosplay where I decided I wanted to take things more seriously in terms of my content and online presence. It felt like a turning point where I said to myself, I want to elevate what I am doing. Wicked Lady also felt like the perfect representation of that moment. She embodies both:

  • Feminine, colorful elements
  • Dark, bold energy

That balance felt very aligned with my personal style and the direction I wanted to go in.

Small Details and Fun Moments

There were also a lot of smaller, fun moments throughout the event. I remember taking a photo while buckled into my seat with the Luna-P ball, and it ended up looking like I was trying to keep it “in line,” which made the whole thing feel playful and in-character. The photo booths at events like this are always worth doing. They capture moments you would not think to stage yourself.

What I Would Improve

If I revisit this cosplay, I would consider:

  • Replacing the mesh top with a stretchier version
  • Refining the wig structure, especially the buns
  • Testing different red contact lenses
  • Possibly enhancing the Luna-P ball to be more dimensional

I would also make sure to steam the costume beforehand, since that is something I realized after the fact would have improved the overall presentation.

Current Condition

The cosplay is still in storage and remains in good condition. Aside from the top being less comfortable than I would like, everything else has held up well and is still wearable.

Final Thoughts

This cosplay represents a turning point for me. It was not just about the character, it was about stepping into a new mindset and deciding to take my creative work more seriously. Wicked Lady felt like the perfect character to mark that moment, and because of that, this cosplay will always hold a special place for me.
