021 Redneck Katelynn

This is one of those characters that came purely from a moment of, “this is so ridiculous, I have to turn it into something.”

When I first saw those scent-based water commercials, the idea made me laugh more than anything. The concept that a scent could make you think your water tastes like something else just felt so strange to me. From there, my brain immediately went to: what would a DIY, over-the-top version of this look like? That’s where “Redneck Katelynn” came from.

The Concept

This character is essentially a heightened, playful version of myself. She’s:

  • Creative in her own way
  • Very confident in her ideas
  • And always trying to “help” by sharing them

She’s the kind of person who genuinely believes she’s onto something, even if the method is a little unconventional.

The humor comes from that balance:

  • She means well
  • She’s trying to be resourceful
  • But the execution is where things go off track

The Personality

“Redneck Katelynn” is designed to feel:

  • Adorable
  • Slightly chaotic
  • Relatable in her own way

She has a recurring off-screen husband, Cleveland, who never appears but somehow always contributes to whatever goes wrong. That running dynamic adds a bit of story continuity to each skit. Even when things fall apart, she doesn’t lose her enthusiasm. That’s part of what makes her fun to play.

The Look (Closet Cosplay)

This is a true closet cosplay using pieces I already own.

  • Real hair styled into a bun
  • Red bra
  • White tank top layered loosely
  • Flannel shirt (a staple piece I wear regularly)
  • Jeans

Sometimes the outfit shifts slightly depending on the skit, but the overall look stays consistent.

It’s intentionally a little imperfect and slightly messy, which fits the character.

Filming & Background

The background used for this character is actually a photo of my dad’s tools from his basement.

It adds a layer of authenticity and fits the DIY, hands-on energy of the character without needing a full set.

Content Style

This character is used for:

  • Parody-style skits
  • Light storytelling
  • Humor based on exaggerated “inventions”

It’s a way to play with ideas that feel overcomplicated or unnecessary and bring them down to something more absurd and entertaining.

Why This Character Works

What makes this character enjoyable is that she isn’t trying to be perfect.

She:

  • Tries her best
  • Shares what she creates
  • And genuinely wants to help

Even if the results are questionable, the intention is always there.

That’s what makes her feel:

  • Lighthearted
  • Familiar
  • And easy to connect with

Future Potential

This is definitely a character that could come back.

Because the concept is simple and flexible, it allows for:

  • New “inventions”
  • Recurring jokes
  • And small story expansions

It’s one of those ideas that can grow naturally over time.

Final Thoughts

This project came from something small, a funny observation, but turned into a full character with personality and potential.

It’s a reminder that creativity doesn’t always start with something serious. Sometimes it starts with something that just makes you laugh.
